ISEE stands for independent schools entrance exam and every student who wants to be admitted in an independent school in New York has to clear this exam with a good score. There are three levels of ISEE exams, one meant for lower school one for middle school and one for the higher school. However the question format is the same for all three levels. It includes reading comprehensions, multiple choice math and vocabulary questions. It also includes an essay which is not graded but is still sent to the schools. This exam is used by almost all the admissions offices of independent New York schools. This exam happens many times in a year but a student can sit for this exam however only once in a six month period.
It is not very difficult for a student to get through this exam. All it takes is being a good student and an avid reader. This will help any student get past this exam with ease. It is easy to prepare for the exam as these days there are several guides and websites which offer previous exams sample questions and a list of expected questions. This way the student is clear as to what to expect in the paper and can be prepared well in advance. This actually helps the student eliminate nervousness and exam fear and increases his or her confidence level. This test is timed and it is important for the students taking the test to keep track of the time. They have to make sure they are able to answer all questions within the given time. This requires practice and while working out sample papers also it is important that the student makes sure he or she sure finishes the paper on time.
The reading comprehension part is extremely easy if the student is a voracious reader. He or she can answer the questions asked with ease and within the given time. However the essay writing can be a little difficult. Mostly the essay topics given are uncomfortably personnel and it is required that students be prepared to successfully write on topics which are not quite comfortable. Many students who have taken the ISEE have felt that they came across material which they have never come across but this is not true. They would definitely have learnt it either in school or while preparing for the ISEE exam. But ISEE presents it in such a way that the student does not recognize the question. Students must be prepared for these sorts of questions and should not panic when they come across some question they are not familiar with.
